To meet auto industry's manufacturing, performance, weight-saving and fuel-reduction challenges, Borealis' latest polypropylene (PP) innovations for pioneering applications by renowned manufacturers of automotives BMW and Opel, its technological breakthroughs in single-material solutions, and the company's global investment in new compounding in China will be showcased at the 33rd VDI International Congress "Plastics in Automotive" from March 25-26, 2009 in Mannheim, Germany.
The company will exhibit steel-replacement solution with the customised all PP rear seat carrier for the new BMW 7 series, providing a significant weight reduction for the total system and improved recyclability by using an all PP-solution. Borealis will also demonstrate its increased supply capabilities with the new compounding sites, including a 50,000 tons plant in China for automotive engineering plastics through Borealis' joint venture Borouge, one in Brazil and manufacturing and supply agreements with affiliates of Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation. It has also boosted the support activities with he recent appointment of sales agent, Polymer Z, to target the North American automotive market.
