Borouge to commission study for Borouge-3 project planned to expand polyolefin capacity

Abu Dhabi Polymers Company (Borouge) - a joint venture between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, or ADNOC, and Borealis, plans to commission an engineering and design study for Borouge-3 project to boost total production capacity to 4.5 mln tpa. The project aims to expand its polyolefin manufacturing capacity by 2.5 mln tpa by the end of 2013 in a bid to meet the growing demand for polyethylene and polypropylene in the Middle East and Asia. The Borouge 3 project is planned to comprise an ethane cracker, second generation Borstar polypropylene and polyethylene units, a low density polypropylene (LDPE) unit. The Borouge-2 expansion project that will triple capacity to 2 mln tpa is on track for completion in 2010. Borouge is expanding its sales and marketing efforts to meet the needs of its customers in the Middle East and Asia, as well as establishing logistics hubs in Shanghai and Guangzhou in China, a 50,000 tpa compounding plant in Shanghai.
