Borouge’s new polyolefins complex on track to start up in 2010

Borouge 2 project at Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, is about 80% complete, with commercial sales expected to start shipping by mid-2010. The polyolefins complex comprises a 1.5 mln tpa cracker, a 540,000 tpa polyethylene unit and a 800,000,000 tpa polypropylene (PP) unit. The company is also building a front line sales force and logistics hubs at Guangzhou, Shanghai and Singapore. The hub in Guangzhou will handle about 246,000 tpa, about 600,000 tpa will be handled in Shanghai and 330,000 tpa in Singapore. A 5 year five-year contract has been awarded to Gulftainer to provide on-site logistics services at Ruwais. Borouge III project at Ruwais is also in the pipeline. The project, which includes a 1.5 mln tpa ethane cracker and plants for PE and PP, is in the front end engineering and design (FEED) phase and is scheduled for completion at end-2013.
