Braskem plans to establish its new ABS joint venture with Styrolution at its petrochemical complex in Camaçari, northeastern Brazil. The proposed plant, with capacity for 100,000 tpa, would supply specialty styrenics- acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), and styrene acrylonitrile (SAN) copolymers. Styrolution will hold 70% stake, while Braskem will hold the balance 30%. The project is subject to completion of an economic feasibility analysis. The agreement provides that Braskem will provide the necessary infrastructure to implement the factory, like utilities, raw materials, among others. Among other investments, Braskem should enable piping systems that will enable the supply of inputs to the new plant. The project value is kept confidential by the companies.
