Brazil plans to invest almost US$ 800 million by 2008 in PET projects alone. This is part of an expansion planned by Brazilian chemical producers to invest some US$4 billion to expand capacity by 2008. The investments will go toward expanding capacity at existing plants and building new ones. Of the total, US$1.3 billion will be invested in Sao Paulo state, US$500 million in Rio de Janeiro state and US$400 million in Rio Grande do Sul state, while the location for US$800 million is still undecided. Almost US $800-mil will be invested in PET alone. This investment will follow the US$1 billion invested this year to expand capacity.
