Breakthrough in converting coal to petrochemicals in China

A research project on dimethyl ether/methanol-to-olefin (DMTO) technique jointly developed by the CAS Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics and two local firms has achieved a landmark research breakthrough. The technology has realized a 100% conversion rate of methyl alcohol and more than 90% selectivity ratio of light olefins (such as ethylene and propylene) at an experimental facility for industrial production with a daily capacity up to 50 tons.
