Carmel Olefins, a subsidiary of Israel's largest oil refiner- Oil Refineries, has been halted production at a monomer unit. Carmel Olefins was ordered by the country's Ministry of Environmental Protections to cease production at its monomer unit following a smoke emission on 9 April 2008. The unit will remain shut until equipment is installed to prevent further incidents.
