Celanese Corporation has doubled the capacity of its vinyl acetate/ethylene (VAE) unit at its integrated chemical complex in Nanjing, China. The expanded unit, which builds on Celanese's advanced VAE technology, started production in Q2-2011, and is expected to meet the increased global demand for innovative specialty solutions in vinyl-based emulsions. Vinyl-based emulsion solutions span a broad range of end-use applications, including low VOC (volatile organic compounds) odor paints and coatings with Celanese's EcoVAE(R) binder, specialty adhesives, and building and construction applications.
"This geographic expansion demonstrates the strength and vision of Celanese as a global emulsions leader applying regional resources to continually innovate and improve our technology in emerging economies to meet our customer's business needs," said Phil McDivitt, general manager, Celanese Emulsion Polymers.
Celanese opened its integrated chemical complex in Nanjing, China, in September 2007. The complex, located at the Nanjing Chemical Industrial Park, brings world-class scale to one site for the production of acetic acid, vinyl acetate monomer, acetic anhydride, emulsion polymers, Celstran(R) long fiber-reinforced thermoplastic (LFRT) and GUR(R) ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE).
