Chemanol (Methanol Chemicals Company Ltd.), a private sector enterprise in Saudi Arabia, is planning a SR 1.5 bln expansion in the industrial city of Jubail. This signals a growth in new downstream methanol based products. Upon completion by 2008, the project will have an annual production capacity of 1,000,000 tons of formaldehyde, derivatives, and other downstream methanol based products. The project also includes the creation of a captive methanol production capability. The production process will be fed by a newly created captive capacity of methanol of approximately 200,000 tpa.
