Specialty chemical company, Ciba will unveil two highly efficient new slip and leveling agents for solvent-borne coating systems at the European Coatings Show in Nuremberg (March 31 to April 2). Based on fluoro-modified polyacrylates, Ciba® IRGAFLOW™ 100 and its higher-concentration partner, Ciba® IRGAFLOW™ 110, are designed for automotive and industrial applications, including coil coating systems, stoving enamels, wood coatings and UV coatings. Slip and leveling agents are used in the coatings industry to prevent surface defects during paint application and to improve the resistance and appearance of dry film.
According to the company, the two additives have excellent substrate-wetting, anti-cratering and flow-control properties. They are said to have better compatibility with different solvent-borne resins, so cause less haze and foaming than traditional products. Further, they are known for intercoat adhesion and can also be over-coated without loss of adhesion. The two new products complement Ciba's range of additives, which include defoamers, dispersants, and rheology and surface modifiers.
