Cincinnati Extrusion GmbH (Austria) is demonstrating once more its innovative leadership with the world premiere of the new, smaller version of its unique, proprietary high-speed single-screw extruder concept with a direct drive at Plast 09, Milan (hall 13, A01). The fast-running Rapidex 1000 single-screw extruder yields an output of up to 1,000 kg/h in HDPE processing. This means, the throughput has been doubled compared to a conventional single-screw extruder with a 60 mm screw diameter. Similar to the larger model Rapidex 1500, this enormous step-up in performance has been made possible by lengthening the processing unit to 37D, an innovative screw concept and a significant increase in drive power. The company clams that extruders with a 90 mm screw diameter are normally required today to achieve a similar output.
The Rapidex features a substantially reduced in-production noise level. In terms of energy consumption, of course, the smaller plasticizing unit is also more efficient, since there is less radiation loss. The direct drive contributes to cutting energy consumption as well, as all losses incurred in transmission systems (such as churning loss or heat generation) are completely eliminated. Together with the brand-new KryoS pipe die, the Rapidex can be integrated into Kryosys to create a unique system for efficient pipe production. KryoSys is suitable for the production of smooth mono- or multi-layer pipes made of PE or PP, with diameters ranging from 110 to 2,000 mm. The length of the cooling section can be halved compared to conventional extrusion lines, even for large pipe diameters. The company claims that KryoSys leads to tremendous energy saving during production process.
