QAPCO eyes JV in Thailand to fuel local demand

Expecting an extensive rise in use of ethylene in Thailand over a few years, Qatar Petrochemical Co Ltd (QAPCO) - an 80:20 venture between Qatar Industries (IQ) and Total Petrochemicals (France) - has started its representative office in the country. Qapco says it plans to have more than 25 representative offices all over the world by 2009 end in nations including Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam. Besides opening representative offices, the world leading exporter of LDPE is also eyeing to get into joint ventures and tie-ups with Thai companies to fuel the local demand for ethylene. The Qatari PE major confirms it desires to be prepared in this Asian region when the market witnesses an upsurge of demand. Currently, QAPCO produces 720,000 tpa of ethylene and 400,000 tpa of LDPE.
