A PET recycling facility, with a 40 million pound annual capacity has been inaugurated at Davisville, West Virginia, at an investment outlay of US$20 mln. It is located in the Polymer Technology Park (PTP), and is the first such operation for Vernon, CA-based thermoformer PWP Industries. Through a partnership with Coca-Cola Recycling LLC of Atlanta, PWP will convert post-consumer PETE bottles into US Food & Drug Administration-compliant resin for food grade-suitable material. The first phase of the project is estimated to result in reduction of annual emission of 30,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2)and energy requirements by 398 mln kilowatt hours- equivalent to the CO2 emissions produced by 20,000 flights from New York to Los Angeles.
