Commercial production of propylene and polypropylene to commence at Saudi Polymers in Q1

Saudi Polymers Co. (SPCo) has completed construction of its petrochemical manufacturing facility located in Al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia., as per hydrocarbonprocessing.com. Final commissioning and testing activities continue with a priority on ensuring safe and reliable operations, the companies said. Commercial production is expected in the first quarter of 2012. The integrated SPCo petrochemicals complex includes world-class operating units that are capable of producing ethylene (1.165 mln tpa), propylene (445,000 tpa), polyethylene (1.1 mln tpa), polypropylene (400,000 tpa), polystyrene (200,000 tpa) and 1-hexene (100,000 tpa). In addition to direct sales in the local Saudi market, the company will serve world markets through its exclusive distributor, Gulf Polymers Distribution Co. utilizing Chevron Phillips Chemical’s global marketing network. SPCo is a limited liability company incorporated in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia that is owned 65 percent by National Petrochemical Co. (Petrochem), a joint-stock company incorporated in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and 35% by Chevron Phillips Chemical.
