Sizings (polymer-based emulsions) are specialty products that add value to glass fiber that is used for plastic reinforcement, both in thermoplastic and thermoset applications. The plastic parts end up in a wide range of applications such as cars, boats, computers, buildings, tanks & pipes etc.
DSM is to build a Sizing plant at the existing DSM production site Xinghuo in Shanghai, in anticipation of market growth in this sector. The new facility, to be built at an investment outlay of US$8 million is estimated to start up in H2-2006. With this investment, the sizings capacity of DSM will be expanded by 50% and will cater to the Chinese market, along with other Asian countries.
