CPC launches study on cracker complex in Western Taiwan

07-Jul-07
Kuokuang Petrochemical Technology, a JV formed by Taiwan's state-controlled CPC Corp (formerly Chinese Petroleum Corp) and certain private petrochemical producers including Chang Chun Petrochemical, is carrying out a feasibility study for a proposed petrochemical complex at southern Mailiao, Taiwan. The facility features a 1 mln tpa naphtha cracker and is expected to start up around 2016. Kuokuang runs the 230,000 tpa No. 3 and the 380,000 tpa No. 4 naphtha crackers at Linyuan, Taiwan, as well as the 500,000 tpa No. 5 naphtha cracker at Kaoshiung, also in Taiwan. The company has secured government approval for a scrap-and-build project, covering the capacity ramp up of the Linyuan No. 3 cracker to 600,000 tpa in 2012.
