CPC’s monthly ethylene imports from China rising on domestic feedstock shortage

16-Sep-11
Imports of ethylene from China are rising at CPC Corp., with volumes this month marking record-high monthly imports recorded by the state-run oil company. The CPC's ethylene imports were supplied by China Petroleum & Chemical Co. (CPCC). Last month, CPC, with a monthly production of 40,000 tons, imported almost 20,000 metric tons of ethylene from CPCC to cover domestic supply shortage, partly caused by the suspension of CPC’s 5th naphtha cracker in Kaohsiung for annual maintenance, and partly due to shutdown of Formosa Plastics Group’s naphtha crackers amid a spate of fire accidents.
