Start up of the Ras Laffan Olefins Co ethane cracker, with capacity to produce 1.3 mln tpa of ethylene has been delayed due to a technical glitch. The ethylene from this cracker was to serve as feedstock for Qatofin’s linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) plant. Due to unavailability of domestic feedstock, Qatofin, a petrochemicals venture of Industries Qatar and Total, could have to opt for sourcing ethylene from external sources. These sources could be domestic ethylene from other sources as well as imports.
