A powerful typhoon has swept across Japan and damaged buildings and roads, halted train service and canceled flights. Typhoon Melor hit the country’s main island early Thursday with strong winds. The resultant storm flooded roads and homes, uprooted trees and power lines and heavily damaged some buildings.
The typhoon weakened slightly as it moved along the country’s main island, is set to change direction off the eastern coast.
