Demand for thermoplastic compounds is on the rise in Asia, recording a 10% increase annually between 2000 and 2004. Asian demand reached an estimated 7.8 million tons in 2004.
As expected China accounts for the largest share of demand in Asia: Over 50% of the Asian compounders are based in China, representing 58% of overall demand, including large as well as small scale players. Large scale operations are run by domestic petrochemical groups PetroChina and Sinopec, as well as European and American players such as Clariant, Polyone and Dupont. However, the composition of Chinese demand is still relatively unsophisticated, as over 70% comprises of simple colour or PVC compounds.
India accounts for 5.3% of Asian compound demand. To read more about thermoplastic consumption in India, click here : www.plastemart.com in press : Modern Plastics International - December 2004 issue
