DuPont, Dow Chem consider petrochem investment in India

13-Jan-06
Areas around Haldia and Vishakhapatnam have been shortlisted by a group of NRIs along with Dow and DuPont for setting up petrochemical conclaves. The conclaves, which are expected to come up over 5,000 acre of land, are part of a plan to develop five such areas in the country. The Planning Commission is in the process of setting up a task force to suggest ways to finalise the proposal of the NRI group. The group of NRIs, set up at the behest of Prime Minister, included Pepsico President Indra Nooyi, Citigroup senior vice- chairman Victor Menezes, former Managing Director McKinsey & Co Rajat Gupta and venture capitalists Vinod Khosla and Parag Saxena. Infrastructure Development Finance Company and IL&FS have been identified to undertake due-diligence of the two sites. The group is also discussing plans to develop the petrochemical projects with developers from Singapore and West Asia.
