Engineering plastics demand in USA is forecast to increase by 3.5% pa to 2.45 mln tons in 2010, according to US market research group Freedonia. The projected gains are significantly higher than those experienced in the 2000-2005 period. Growth will be driven by growth in the electrical and electronics market and by increasing "per vehicle" usage in the automobile market. The largest growth will be seen by Polycarbonate and polyesters, while ABS, the largest engineering plastic by volume, is expected to advance at a much slower rate.
