Ethylene capacity in Asia to rise by 2010

PetroChina Daqing Petrochemical Company in China has received official approval from China National Development and Reform Commission to double the capacity at its cracking plant to 1.2 mln tpa. The project is scheduled to go onstream between 2009 and 2010. In addition, Exxon Mobil is to also build a new ethylene-cracking unit in Singapore, boosting ethylene capacity to 3.5 mln tpa and propylene capacities to 2.21 mln tpa by 2010. With these capacity additions, Asia's ethylene capacity is estimated to touch 22 mln tpa by 2010; while ethylene capacity in the Middle East will reach 15 mln tpa.
