Explosion caused by fire shuts Sasol's S African chemicals plant

09-Jan-09
South Africa's petrochemicals group Sasol has had to shut down its Germiston plant after a fire caused an explosion. The cause of the fire is unknown as yet, and an investigation is underway. The fire destroyed four tankers and injured one person, at the plant that produces solvents such as butanol, methanol and ethanol. The company's customers are unlikely to be affected by the shutdown as supplies will continue to supply from our operations in Durban.
