Formosa Plastics Corp. of Texas and Formosa Plastics Corp. of Louisiana are to pay US$2.8 mln in civil penalties as part of its settlement announced by the Justice Department and Environmental Protection Agency. The two companies have agreed to spend over US$10 million on improvements at petrochemical plants in Louisiana and Texas to resolve environmental violations at the facilities as found after EPA inspection. The EPA inspected the companies' plants in Baton Rouge, LA, and Point Comfort, TX, and found violations of regulations governing leak detection and repairs, hazardous waste and wastewater discharge limits.
