29-Feb-12
New natural gas supplies are triggering a spate of expansions at Formosa’s US facilities. Formosa Plastics Corp. is to invest US $1.7 bln for expansion of its plastics and petrochemcials site in Point Comfort, Texas, as per Plasticsnews. Expansion will include a new low density polyethylene (LDPE) plant with capacity to produce 660 mln lbs pa, a 1.8 bln lb olefins cracker and a 1.3 bln lb propane dehydrogenation unit. The new cracker “will take advantage of the increasingly reliable and low-cost domestic natural gas, and supply feedstock both to existing production units and the new LDPE unit,” officials said in the release.
