GAIL (India) Ltd. has suspended a proposed petrochemical complex due to a shortage of ethane-rich natural gas required as feedstock. The gas-cracker project had not been shelved, but will face delays because most of the imported natural gas is not ethane-rich. Progress on the project will be unviable unless India starts imports of ethane-rich gas. The complex was to come up on about 200 hectares of Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore Ltd. (FACT) land at Ambalamugal.
