Work is progressing as per schedule on GAIL's 700,000 tpa integrated petrochemical plant in Kochi, to be built at an investment outlay of Rs. 7,000 crore. Capacities at the complex will include 600,000 tpa of ethylene and 100,000 tpa of propylene. The feedstock for this plant will be imported LNG which will be regasified at the Petronet LNG Terminal Limited. The LNG will be sourced from Qatar, Iran and other countries. GAIL is looking for multiple sources, including Malaysia for gas supply.
The project is likely to be commissioned coinciding with the commissioning of the LNG terminal at Kochi. Final approval for the petrochemical project from the GAIL board is being awaited.
