GE Plastics has announced major expansion of its' Ultem* polyetherimide (PEI) resin family at two manufacturing sites its Mt. Vernon, Ind. and Cartagena, Spain. An investment of US$250 million will fund the expansion at Cartagena, Spain, which, when it opens in 2008, will add 30% more Ultem resin capacity worldwide. An additional US$30 million will be invested in new equipment and technology at Mt. Vernon, to boost U.S. Ultem and Siltem resin production by 12% and cut manufacturing lead times to one week.
