German scientists find new copolymer

04-Sep-08
Research staff working with Dr. Thomas Keller and Prof. Klaus D. Jandt at the Institute of Materials Science and Technology (IMT) at Friedrich-Schiller University of Jena have produced a new copolymer only about 100 nanometres thick. The orientation of the chains potentially gives this material very high tensile strength, which makes it interesting for high-strength polymers or optical applications, says Jandt. The scientists are planning to develop larger copolymer films for this purpose.
