Environment friendly 'roll and return' packaging concept unveiled

02-Sep-08
A graduate from UK's Royal College of Art, has unveiled the concept of reusing packaging made of polypropylene, which can be easily rolled up and returned. Will's particular method of forming the boxes in such a way that they can be collapsed and rolled up for return has been patented. Apparently, the 'roll and return' packaging boxes can be re-used more than 10 times and thereafter could be recycled. This concept has possible applications in consumer packaging as well as transit packaging. The packaging boxes are made of polypropylene grades used in the automotive industry but they resemble traditional printed, corrugated cardboard cartons. Roll and return is a re-usable packaging solution, which will significantly trim down waste and is rewarding for the consumer. The concept will certainly provide answers to the problems arising out of packaging waste and concerns about the overloading of landfills.
