In 2015, the global market polypropylene compounds grew by 4% suppressed by weak automotive production globally. Asia now accounts for 46% of global demand compared with 28% in Europe and 26% in the Americas, as per AMI Consulting. Within the automotive segment which is the largest market for PP Compounds, applications are split into interiors, exteriors and under the hood.
The report examines the rate of structural change in the industry which has seen few mergers and acquisitions in the last year but plenty of investment in new capacity as PP Compounders seek to keep pace with growing local demand and internationalise their businesses. The former had a particularly strong 2015 whereas the latter is establishing plants in both North America and Europe in 2016.
