US olefins producer LyondellBasell embarked a 45-day planned turnaround at its 300,000 mt/year monoethylene glycol facility in Bayport, Texas, as per market sources in Platts. A company spokeswoman declined to comment, citing company policy. LyondellBasell's turnaround marks the first in a series of planned maintenance outages among US Gulf Coast MEG producers.
Huntsman is also planning to take down one of its three Port Neches, Texas, ethylene oxide units down for a 30-day maintenance in August, which will lower MEG run rates, according to a source with knowledge of company operations. Hunstman's Port Neches MEG lines have a combined capacity of 280,000 mt/year.
Nan Ya Plastics also was heard to be planning a turnaround at its 300,000 mt/year Point Comfort, Texas plant, multiple market sources said. The company could not be reached for confirmation.
