Clariant has celebrated the inauguration of its new production plant for Licocene®, the polyolefin-based high-performance polymers in Frankfurt-Höchst, Germany. Speakers at the event will include the site manager Dr. Werner Brodt; the Frankfurt mayor Petra Roth; the Clariant CEO, Jan Secher; and Dr. Uwe Nickel, Head of Clariant's Pigments & Additives Division.
"Building this plant in Frankfurt-Höchst was a conscious decision for a site in the heart of Germany," says Dr. Uwe Nickel. The excellent infrastructure at the site was a decisive factor. The necessary infrastructure is already in place, and the close proximity to all important research and development facilities of the Pigments & Additives Division allows us to make the best use of synergy. This is what made it possible to implement a new production technology in minimum time."
After a construction period of two years, the plant, which has an annual capacity of 20,000 tons, is starting operation on schedule. Clariant can now satisfy the growing demand for Licocene®. With this worldwide unique production method for low-molecular polymers developed by Clariant, important features, such as hardness, melting point, transparency, and viscosity, can be individually tailored as needed and combined in many different ways. The structure and properties of the polymers can be precisely determined according to the specifications provided by each customer. Clariant's motto "What do you need?" is being lived up to, emphasizing the company's commitment to industry customers and end users.
A large product portfolio is available ranging from tailored additives for effective and economical plastics processing to formulations for adhesives and special additives for enhanced adhesive processes. The possibilities offered by this special production methods are far from being fully exploited, so that more interesting developments in the Licocene® family can be expected.
