BASF AG, the world's leading TDI supplier, has acquired Huntsman Corp's global TDI business for an undisclosed amount, effective immediately. TDI (toluene diisocyanate) is mainly used as a raw material for flexible foams, used to make furniture and car seats.
Huntsman's TDI business covered by the deal reached 60 mln in sales in 2004, representing 2% of Huntsman's total polyurethane (PU) business. The transaction encompasses the transfer of Huntsman's TDI customer list, comprising mainly US-based customers, and sales contracts to BASF, but does not include any shifting of manufacturing operations or personnel. It is not yet known how much BASF's TDI sales will increase following the transaction.
