IML technology to be used for thermoforming production

01-Jul-05
German thermoforming tooling and automation specialist Marbach has developed its IML solution in partnership with Systec Komplettsysteme, an established player in injection moulding IML automation, and is planning to deliver the in-mould labeling systems for thermoforming production. Thicker labels may prove to be of advantage in thermoforming applications where they may help to cut cycle times. While thin labels are considered essential for injection moulding, the in-mould labeling (IML) technology is contemplated to have generated an interest from thermoformed packaging producers. This is because it is considered ideal for achieving a good bond between the label and container during the thermoforming process using an about 50 micron label stock, typical of injection moulded IML applications. Marbach and Systec Komplettsysteme are currently known to be exploring cost/performance ratios of the thicker label films.
