Dow Chemical Company and Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC) have further strengthened their faith in the capabilities of Fluor Corporation. Fluor has signed a MOU with the Dow Chemical Company and Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC) JV to provide engineering, procurement and construction management services for the utilities and infrastructure portion of a major petrochemical project in Kuwait. This is in addition to the program management contract which was awarded last year to perform overall management consultancy and front-end engineering services.
The integrated petrochemical complex, known as the Olefins II Program, at an investment outlay of billion-plus dollars is to be 25 miles south of Kuwait City in Shuaiba, with completion slated for Q2 - 2008. It will include construction of an 850,000 tpa cracker, a 600,000 tpa ethylene glycol unit, a 450,000 tpa ethyl benzene/styrene monomer unit. A polyethylene capacity at the existing complex will be expanded to the tune of 225,000 tpa.
