Impact accident at Total’s Carling site on Arkema activities

17-Jul-09
Following the accident which occurred yesterday on Total’s petrochemicals platform at Carling (Moselle, France), the Arkema Group wishes above all to express its solidarity and deepest sympathy to all the victims at the TPF Carling site and their families, and to all the TPF Carling personnel. Arkema wishes to point out that its own industrial installations adjoining the TPF installations on the site have not been impacted by this accident: acrylic acid production is continuing with existing propylene feedstock. The short-term consequences on acrylic acid and esters production are being assessed. Arkema personnel are cooperating with their counterparts at TPF to identify temporarily new sources of supply for propylene, the raw material used to manufacture acrylic acid. Arkema’s chlorine sites which use ethylene to manufacture PVC are not concerned by the shutdown of ethylene production at Carling, as their feedstock is shipped by pipeline from the TPF Feyzin site for the Jarrie plant and from the TPF Lavéra site for the Fos-sur-mer and Lavéra plants.
