Supply restrictions have led to an increase in prices for standard thermoplastics in Europe in June as per EPN's monthly report.
The polyolefins sector was the worst affected by planned and unplanned outages and prices increased by €20-30/ton. The differential between LDPE and LLDPE prices widened, with LDPE grades in relatively short supply. The declaration of force majeure by Ineos at its cracker in Grangemouth, UK, hit PP prices as well as PE grades. Prices for PP in Europe were an average of €20/ton higher, although some producers managed increases closer to €30/ton.
In June PVC suppliers pushed through the first sizeable price rise for some time. Plant outages at Shin-Etsu and Arkema led to a €30-40/ton increase in European PVC prices.
Polystyrene producers sought price hikes to match the rise of €59/ton in styrene monomer contract prices in June. In the end, they settled for PS price increases of €30-40/ton.
