Indonesia is planning to develop a coal-based methanol and olefins project in East Kalimantan to produce 300,000 tpa of methanol and 300,00 tpa of olefins, as per Platts.
Both plants will require about 1 mln tpa of coal as feedstock and cost US$1 billion to build. A consortium of petrochemical and coal mining companies will carry out the project.
