Invista has commenced engineering activities to construct a world-scale nylon 6,6 facility in Asia, start up of which is expected by 2011. This development has been triggered by the region's rising demand for adiponitrile (ADN), hexamethylene diamine (HMD), and nylon 6,6 polymer. The company is working with key customers and suppliers in China and around the region to finalize site selection.
The company is going ahead with plans to expand its ADN and HMD facilities by approximately 100,000 tpa by 2008. Improvements are in progress at Invista's intermediate chemical production facilities in Wilton, (United Kingdom) and Sakra, Singapore. Invista has planned construction of a 11,000 tpa nylon 6,6 yarns plant in Shanghai, PR China. This plant will make super high tenacity nylon 6,6 yarns for use in differentiated industrial textile applications, particularly the automotive airbag industry.
