Oil ministers from Iran and Oman are in a fresh round of talks. The focus of the talks will be development of the Kish and Hengam gas fields in the Persian Gulf, the joint construction of petrochemical units and the export and exchange of Iran's gas. Iran’s Kish gas field and the different phases of the South Pars gas field are being considered for gas exports to Oman. The two countries had inked a deal in April to jointly develop the Kish gas field at an investment of US$7-12 bln, planned for completion by 2012.
The first phase of the project will transport gas to Oman at a rate of one billion cubic feet/day, which will then rise to 3 billion cubic feet.
