Japan's Aicello to acquire PVA film business from Tohcello

26-Mar-09
Aicello, Japan-headquartered global specialty packaging manufacturer has recently inked an agreement to acquire polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) film product line and assets of Tohcello Company (Japan). By this deal, Aicello aims to step up its PVA film business as a core product offering, by increasing production capacity and leveraging the assets and technology included in the acquisition. The company's long term strategy is to combine R&D capabilities with the film's exceptional properties, in order to modify and optimize PVA film into innovative new markets. Tohcello employees will continue to work at the production facilities in Hamamatsu, Japan, which will be known as the Hamamatsu Production Group of Aicello Chemical Company, Ltd, complementing Aicello's current production facilities in Toyohashi, Japan. PVA film has a combination of several unique properties, making it ideal in applications such as water soluble packaging, mold release and transfer printing. PVA film's biodegradability and water solubility meet the needs of today's sustainability requirements for consumer unit dose laundry and dishwashing detergents. With significant growth in global demand, the acquisition allows continued expansion in current commercial markets, as well as development of new markets in the future.
