Japan's Asahi restarts naphtha cracker

18-Apr-12
Japan's Asahi Kasei Chemicals Corp has restarted its sole naphtha cracker, shut since March 5, after a scheduled maintenance, as per Reuters. The company currently plans to bring the operating rate to 100%, to be adjusted later based on demand. Asahi Kasei and Mitsubishi Chemical Corp jointly operate two ethylene-making facilities in Mizushima complex. The ethylene capacity, which accounts for 12.5% of the nation's total, is being considered, due to slowing demand and increased competition from Asian rivals.
