Japan’s ethylene production rose 3.6% in August from a year ago levels, as robust demand enabled producers to keep their crackers at high rates. Output totalled 628,200 tons in August 2009 as compared to 606,100 tons in August 2008. Output in July was 553,800 tons.
Strong plastics demand in China, Asia's top petrochemical importer, has kept cracker runs high through much of North Asia. The export volume of ethylene jumped 33.7% to 222,200 tons in July from a year earlier.
