JX Nippon Oil & Energy Corp, has completed a 3,000 bpd experimental high severity fluid catalytic cracker at its Mizushima-A refinery at an investment outlay of 20 billion yen (US$246 mln). Japan’s top oil refiner hopes to build a bigger commercial cracker in future, as per Reuters. The new unit is preparing to start trial operations. It can yield 20% propylene and 35%t 100-octane gasoline. A typical FCC unit produces 5% propylene and 50% 90-octane gasoline.
