Klöckner Pentaplast Group, a leading producer of films, has recently unveiled two rigid polypropylene films intended to be used in conjunction with one another for two-piece cup and container forming applications. The company says its new Pentaprint® W-5150 base film is engineered with material stiffness to minimize waste and eliminate waviness on the bottom of finished cups and containers while Pentaprint® W-5120 sidewall film is optimized for printing and sealing to itself and the cup/container base. In addition, W-5120 film can be heat sealed to a variety of lidstocks compatible with PP cups and containers. As compared to traditional paperboard, Pentaprint® W-5120 and W-5150 films are claimed to offer superior brightness and gloss, as well as providing a superior printing surface due to a lack of ink absorption. These films are available in translucent and opaque colors.
Currently, two-piece cups and containers are produced as blanks, which are pre-printed on traditional printing presses, then are assembled into a container or cup. According to company, the films provide superior graphics quality that exceeds traditional plastic containers and are well suited for high-impact promotional cups and containers and premium product lines such as beverage cups and popcorn tubs. Further, the films offer a superior barrier for oils and hot liquids that may otherwise compromise the integrity of a paper product. Pentaprint® PP films can be used on existing traditional printing presses configured for plastic sheet.
