Lockout declared at IPCL's Allahabad plant

IPCL has declared a lockout at its polyester filament yarn manufacturing plant in Allahabad, after an illegal strike by its employees. The Allahabad plant manufactures 65,000 tpa of polyester yarn and was acquired from Raymond to be recently merged with IPCL. The company communication to the BSE said that "due to an illegal strike at the Allahabad unit, resulting in behaviour causing apprehension amongst management staff and their families, the management has declared a lock out with effect from February 4, 2007." IPCL is part of Reliance Industries, which has never faced an industrial dispute in the last three decades.
