LyondellBasell to shut France refinery, to focus resources on petrochemical operations at the site

LyondellBasell Industries has announced plans to shut its French refinery, and will begin talks to cease operations after its offer to sell the 105,000 bpd operation failed to attract any buyers. It will focus its resources on petrochemical operations at the site, which include polypropylene and polyethylene plants. "Despite efforts from employees and management, the refinery continues to suffer severe losses and remains unprofitable," said Jean Gadbois, the site's general manager.
