Menzolit, a leading provider of sheet moulding compounds (SMC) and bulk moulding compounds (BMC), unveiled a method to incorporate heating wires into slabs of SMC to make integrally moulded heated trays, heating elements or similar items to heat electrically. Though moulding metal elements into SMC is not a new idea, but moulding-in fragile heating wires without destroying them is new, says the company. Researchers at Menzolit's technical centre in Vineuil (France) have invented this method and the technology available is now been made available to interested moulders and OEMs. According to the company, the method allows a very economic and efficient way of producing heating elements and still providing great flexibility in design and styling to make the heated elements look attractive in a modern kitchen or living room environment.
